The World Is Flat

In the latest edition of his book "The World Is Flat" (Audio Book 2011) Thomas L. Friedman illustrates in great detail how the internet and high speed connections have enable smart and well educated people all around the world to perform work for developed countries such as the USA and Western Europe in real time at a fraction of the cost of doing the work in the home country.  The most notable of these countries is India which is now the World's largest English speaking country and which produces over 80,000 university graduates per year.  General Electric, Google, Motorola and Intel are a few of the multinational companies who have migrated a substantial proportion of their data storage, data processing management and software and product development, to India;  Wall Mart's supply chain management is processed in India.  Other countries that effectively export services to develop countries include Russia, China, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil and Chile.  Accountancy including US citizen tax returns, interpretation of medical tests and scans, and even one on one coaching in Maths is being provided by India.

Your children will have to compete for their employment against the best from many countries and even if their business is in manufacturing they will need to compete with the very low cost factories in China and other countries with low wages and increasingly effective infrastructure.

Teach Your Child How To Think

The only real asset that your child has is his/her mind.  Teaching your child thinking skills and developing their habits: to look beyond the obvious, to imagine, to create new ideas and alternatives, to develop ideas, to evaluate alternatives and to communicate and collaborate with others, is the most important thing that you can do for your child.

Edward de Bono's Thinking Program for Students Six Hats(TM), CoRT(TM) have been used by thousands of school in over 50 countries and they have proven to be effective.  Teachers who use this tools are usually passionate about their simiplicity and effectiveness. (click here for Appendix D, Page 12 for testimonials from two New Zealand teachers)  CoRT(TM) was developed at Cambridge University and  was vigorously evaluated before its release in 1972.

David Perkins Senior Professor of Education of Harvard Graduate School researched de Bono’s CoRT(TM) program and noted in his book Outsmarting IQ: the emerging science of learnable intelligence, (The Free Press pg 195):
“It is reasonable to conclude that CoRT has considerable impact on thinking...Also, there can be some impact on general measures of intelligence and on school performance...CoRT is straightforward, ingenious, and quite easy to apply. Intelligence can be taught by CoRT.”

We have trained over 700 students in 16 schools in Hong Kong with exciting results.  Please refer to Parents and Students Testimonials.
